SOF is an Educational Organization popularizing academic competition and assisting development of competitive spirit among school children.

SOF was established by leading academicians, scientists and media personalities with the aim of promoting Science, Mathematics, Computer Education, English, Social Studies, General Knowledge and professional courses. Science Olympiad Foundation has been striving for close to 25 years to promote scientific attitude and temperament through innovative activities and use of IT in learning process that involve school students across the globe.

In the present times when the world is totally pivoted on science and IT, it is pertinent to think and plan about the future – a future in which the children of the present shall be the leaders of tomorrow. Regular qualitative and quantitative assessment needs to be done at the national/international level in order to build up the scientific, commercial and IT talent pool. It is in this sphere that the role of SOF has been much appreciated over these last many years, so much so that The Ministry of Corporate Affairs, through The Institute of Company Secretaries of India, and many highly reputed organizations like The British Council, Star Sports, Techfest IIT Bombay, IIT Kharagpur, National University of Singapore & TCS, etc have volunteered to partner and support SOF’s various programmes.

SOF’s integrity and commitment towards the fulfilment of its objectives have been lauded by the team of thousands of schooling institutions spread across the globe and millions of students who have directly benefited from its educative, informative and evaluative programs. For the future, SOF has several more innovative programs lined up, which promise to bring about a sea change in the approach to education and preparation for competitive programs.

How to Participate

Registration of Students: The SOF NCO is open to the students of classes one to ten. Prospectus containing the Registration forms are sent to all schools registered with SOF. Schools not registered may also request for prospectus by sending an e-mail at [email protected] / Phone call. Schools must return the registration forms to SOF, duly filled in and complete in all respects by the due date.

Roll Numbers: The school’s coordinating teacher should fill the School Registration Form (SRF) and Students’ Registration Sheet (SRS) as per the guidelines given & should send to the SOF’s office before the due date of submission of forms. SOF will register the applicant school and the students. As per the Students’ Registration Sheet (SRS) received from the School, SOF will generate roll numbers for all students.

Foundation will register the applicant school and the students and dispatch question papers and guidelines for conducting the examination. Principals / teachers may please note that any school can be registered as a center for SOF NCO. No fee is required from the institution to become a registered examination centre. A minimum of 5 students need to be registered for SOF NCO from each school for feasibility reasons.

The SOF NCO is conducted on two dates. Each school may select a date for conducting the SOF NCO as per its convenience. Each date of exam has a separate question paper. Change of date for conducting SOF NCO is not permitted.

Students should register through their respective schools only. Individual registrations by students are not accepted.

Registration Fee: Schools in India, Bangladesh, Bhutan & Nepal pay to SOF a registration fee of Rs 125* (including GST) per student / Olympiad towards cost of examination. Schools may charge an additional Rs 25** per student towards honorarium of incharge, remuneration to teachers to teach and guide, and for other expenses. No fee is payable for students suffering from any major physical disability, or an Indian student whose parent was martyred during defence operations.

The SOF National Cyber Olympiad paper :

The test is organized in the respective schools of the participants during school hours.

(i) The paper is an objective-type test of 60 minutes duration comprising 35 objective-type (Multiple Choice) questions for classes 1 to 4 and 50 objective-type (Multiple Choice) questions for classes 5 to class 10.

(ii) The question paper consists of three sections:

Section-1: Logical Reasoning
Section-2: Computers and Information Technology
Section-3: Achievers Section

(iii) There are separate question papers for each date of exam.

(iv) The medium of the test is English.

(v) CBSE, ICSE/ISC and State Board syllabi are followed for setting the test papers.

(vi) The exam is conducted during school hours.

AWARDS/SCHOLARSHIPS/RECOGNITIONS

For the academic year 2019-20, SOF spent over Rs. 18 Crores on awards, Scholarships, gifts & felicitations etc.

The following awards will be provided to the winners of SOF National Cyber Olympiad being held during the academic year 2021-22.

AWARDS/SCHOLARSHIPS – STUDENTS

International, Zonal & School topper awards will be provided to SOF NCO winners. NCO is a Single level exam and will be conducted for classes 1 to 10.

Each winner will be entitled to one award for an exam. The winners will be entitled to the higher level award only. For e.g., the international top 3 rank holders will be entitled to awards based on their International ranks. Awards accruing to them for Zonal ranks will be given to the next rank holder. Similarly, class award accruing to a Zonal award winner will be given to the next rank holder.

In case two or more students achieve the same rank, cash award will be distributed as under:

• For up to 5 students getting same rank, award amount will be distributed equally. In addition, each winner will be awarded a medal (in the applicable category) and a Certificate.
• In case 6 & more students get same rank, in lieu of cash award, each winner will be awarded gifts worth Rs.1,000/- each + a medal (in the applicable category) and a Certificate.

AT SCHOOL LEVEL

1. Medals to School/Class Toppers.

  • All students scoring 100% marks.
  • For 5 to 9 students writing the exam/class – Gold Medal of Excellence to top rank holder in class.
  • For 10 to 25 students writing the exam/class – Gold Medal of Excellence to top 3 rank holders in class.
  • For more than 25 students writing the exam/class – Gold Medal of Excellence to top 10% rank holders in class.

2. Student Performance Report (SPR) for each participating student.

  • Every student who appears in SOF NCO is provided with a Student Performance Report (SPR). An SPR is a detailed analysis of how the student attempted the 1st level Olympiad exam.
  • The objective of SPR is to share with the student and her / his parents, analysis of student’s answers. This is expected to enable the student understand her/his strengths and areas requiring improvement in absolute terms and also on a competitive scale consisting of lacs of students of her/his class who appeared for the Olympiad.

Student Performance Report (SPR) consists of five sections:

  • Section A – provides the student’s marks and rank achieved in School / City / Zone / Region at international level.
  • Section B – provides a past Year-wise analysis of the student.
  • Section C – provides a percentage score analysis of the student with a comparison at Class, City, Zone and international level.
  • Section D – provides a comparison of average marks analysis at the School, City, Zone and international level.
  • Section E – provides a Topic-wise performance analysis of the student.

3. Participation Certification to each student.

4. Top 25 rank holders from each class & each Olympiad exam will be awarded Medals of Distinction. This will be applicable for winners from 26 Zones for performance in the 1st level Olympiads/ single level Olympiads.

*Awards to Principals are based on cumulative performance of schools in all exams, whereas awards to teachers are based on performance of school in SOF NCO.

How does a student benefit by taking Olympiad exams?

Participants of Olympiads are ranked on the basis of marks obtained. Hence, after taking the test, students can judge themselves academically at five different levels - within the school, at city level, at zonal level, at regional level and above all at International level.

Each student is provided a Student Performance Report (SPR). The SPR analyses the strong and weak areas of the student and also gives a detailed performance comparison of the student vis-à-vis other students at School, City, Zonal and International level. Analysis of the student’s past years’ performance is also provided.

Students are suitably awarded based on their International, Zonal and School ranking. Prizes are announced annually and include cash awards, medals, gifts, certificates etc. Selective International toppers from each class are awarded at a grand prize distribution ceremony held in Delhi, presided over by eminent personalities. Prizes for zonal winners and school winners are sent to their respective schools. For the year 2020-21, a sum of Rs. 20 Crores will be spent towards awards, felicitations, scholarships etc.

Who all are eligible to sit for the Olympiads?

Students of classes 1st to 10th are eligible to appear for the SOF NCO. There is no other eligibility criterion like minimum marks.
SOF NCO is a single level exam.

I am interested to take part in the Olympiads. Tell me how will I come to know about the details of the exam?

All the relevant information is sent to the schools registered with us across countries, along with prospectus, registration forms, posters and other details before the exam. The students come to know about the necessary details from their school teachers or through the SOF official website www.sofworld.org or through the SOF facebook page www.facebook.com/sofworld.

Myself and few of my friends are interested to take part in the Olympiads but our school has not yet received any information regarding the Olympiad. What can we do?

Please let us know the name, e-mail ID, complete address of your school along with name and contact details of the Principal. We will send detailed information and registration forms to your School so that your Principal / Olympiad Teacher-in-charge can register your names for the exam.

What is the syllabus for the Olympiads?

The syllabus of the Olympiads is the syllabus as prescribed by the CBSE, ICSE and various state boards. The details of syllabus are also posted on the Foundation’s Website. Please click following link to access the syllabus NCO Syllabus.

Are there any special books which the participants should refer to for the NCO preparation?

In general, NCERT books/course books prescribed by the CBSE/ICSE/STATE BOARDS may be referred to for the preparation. We also have following books/materials for Olympiad preparation:

I have already appeared for the Olympiads while I was in a lower class? Can I appear again?

Certainly. This will give you an opportunity to improve your previous rankings, and if you are successful in doing so, you will again be eligible for certificates and prizes.

 

My school has already dispatched the registration form. I am left out and I want to register myself for the Olympiad exam. What should I do?

You can request your school authority to send your relevant details and fee immediately to us. We will accept it if it reaches us before the last date of registration (usually 30 days before the exam).

I am going to write the Olympiads for the first time. Can I get sample papers?

Sample Papers are sent to all schools registered for Olympiad exams. SOF website also contains these papers. In addition to the sample papers, students may also benefit by subscribing to OSDS – Olympiad Skill Development System (please refer to the link NCO SAMPLE PAPER for details)

What is the structure and pattern of the examination?

When are the results of Olympiads declared?

Results of Olympiads are declared within 8 weeks of each examination. The results are sent to the schools concerned. The results are also made available on our website.

Can I take part in more than one Olympiad exam?

Although conducted by the same Foundation, NCO, NSO, IMO, IEO, ICO, ISSO & IGKO are completely different competitions. Students can register for all the Olympiads in a year as per class eligibility.

Do I have to regularly visit your website for the latest update of SOF activities?

All the important information regarding Olympiads including date, time and venue etc. is available on our website. So it is beneficial for you to surf our site www.sofworld.org and www.facebook.com/sofworld.

I have come to know that I am eligible for an award. I am studying in a different school / passed out from school and pursuing further studies. Will I come to know about the date?

As soon as we finalize the date and venue of the presentation ceremony, we send out the information to the schools concerned and also share the dates on our website www.sofworld.org and on our Facebook page www.facebook.com/sofworld. So please be in touch with your previous school or/and access our website regularly.

I have still not received my Roll No. / Admit Card / Participation Certificate. I have checked from my school authorities and they are also not in receipt of the same. Kindly advise what to do?

Please request your Principal / Computer Teacher to inform us about the non-receipt of the above. We will send duplicate copies to your school as soon as we hear from them.

We have come to know about your Foundation and we are interested. How do we enroll our school with you?
